Bless Your Little Heart! Liebster Award?! You're so Sweet!

I was checking my emails, and lo and behold,

Sweet In Seventh nominated me for a Liebster Award! Many of you are aware of what the Liebster Award is. It is an award for bloggers with less that 200 followers. It is a great way to recognize the newer bloggers. There are a few rules when you get nominated: Link back to the blog who nominated you, answer the questions presented by your nominated, Share 11 random facts about yourself, Nominate blogs that have less than 200 followers, and present questions for your nominees to answer.

My top 5 favorite books:
(in no particular order)
1. And Then There Were None, Agatha Christie
2. 1776, David McCullough
3. John Adams, David McCullough
4. Oh! The Places You Will Go, Dr. Seuss
5. Something Borrowed, Emily Giffin

What would you do if you weren't teaching?
Probably a Graphic Designer. I love designing things on
the computer. I do some work on the side while teaching, but I would
need to get more education on Graphic Designing before I could make a living
doing it.

What is your favorite professional book?
So far, I really enjoyed reading "Teach Like a Champion"
I loved that book because it constantly made me feel like
I wanted to be a better teacher. The inspiration is always good!

Where is your favorite reading spot?
I really don't have one. I read just about anywhere. It soothes me.

What do you order from Starbucks?
Iced White Chocolate Mocha is my FAVORITE!
I also like their black tea/lemonade. DELISH!

Where do you buy your teacher clothes?
Old Navy. Most of my clothes are from Old Navy because their clothes are
so comfy. I am looking to branch out and hopefully find other stores soon!

What is your favorite moment in teaching?
I am a first year teacher, but thinking back to my student teaching--
When I taught the Election 2012 using Pepsi & Coke... It was
BRILLIANT! My favorite lesson, by FAR!

Do you consider yourself a good student?
Yes! I love to learn! I love to listen. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to ask
questions. Sometimes it may come off as annoying, but honestly #sorryimnotsorry

What advice do you have for first year teachers?
I am a first year teacher. If you have advice for me, can you give me some?
I am starting to get the jitters!

Least favorite teaching year..
(I am a first year teacher..)
When I was in Middle School.. 6th grade/7th grade was the worst grade for me.
I want to make sure that I am a teacher that cares about her students to make sure
that they don't experience the same bullying, etc that I went through.

11 Random Facts about myself:
1. I do not have a specific favorite color. 2. I have a bluetick coon hound year old puppy, Dexter (he IS still a puppy, right?) 3. My DVR and I are best friends 4. I design invitations in my free time 5. I love natural colors

  1. Jess,
I am so glad you were nominated for this award. I was (honestly) going to nominate you but I had thought you already had been.... blessed be Miss Sweet in Seventh for nominating you, so deserving!

I really enjoyed reading your answers, I absolutely LOVE the fact that Oh! The Places You'll Go is a favorite book of yours as well, never too old for Dr. Seuss in my opinion! "Teach like a Champion" is a fabulous book, I started reading Ron Clark's "The End of Molasses Classes" and that too is a fabulous book, I totally recommend it!

My advice to you, since I am not too far removed from my first year is don't be afraid to mess up. You do not have to draw attention to it (like, if you were to mess up in class) but, don't beat yourself up if you make a "boo-boo" here and there, it's bound to happen. Also, (and this is a big one I learned) don't be afraid to ask for help. It's never a sign of weakness and if your school is anything like mine, your colleagues will be more than happy to help!

I can not wait to experience your 1st year through your blog! I am so excited for you! I will have to send you my email through facebook so if you need anything at all, you can contact me! I will be happy to assist ANY way I can! :)

  2. I LOVE to read and watch my DVR too! I'm a Miami Hurricanes fan though! Lol!
Since I already did a Liebster, I'm goin' to answer your questions here:
    Questions for my Nominees:
    1. What is your favorite sports team? New Orleans Saints, Miami Hurricanes, Boston Red Sox
    2. What is your perfect weekend? NOT leavin' my house...at all.
    3. What is a must have at your desk? Diet Coke...always
    4. What is your favorite professional book? Hmm...that's a tough one. I've read so many.
    5. What would a utopian society be like to you? Definitely not the Hunger Games. I'd be dead in a second.
    6. Name three things you would bring to a deserted island? Don't laugh...my pillow, my blanket(from childhood), and my Kindle
    7. If you could mentor a first year teacher, what would be the first thing you
would tell him/her? Take it one day at a time. Some things will work and some won't. Don't get discouraged and have fun with what you're teaching. Always tell the kids how much they mean to you and remember that you never know what goes on when they walk out the door each day.
    8. What is your hobby? Reading, crafting, talking, sleeping (can that be a hobby?)
    9. What would you be if you weren't a teacher? A professional sleeper or reader
    10. If you could move anywhere in the U.S. where would you move? I'd stay in Florida...it's where I've been 99% of my life.
    11. Who is your favorite president? Reagan
    Alison
    Rockin' and Lovin' Learnin'
